I finally got a chance to test drive Apple’s latest mouse and I have a verdict: It’s terrible.
The mouse was hooked up to a new 27″ iMac at my local Apple store in what should be a perfect environment for the device to perform. However I found the device to be unresponsive to basic mousing maneuvers and page scrolling. That’s not the worst of it though, the multi-touch features are painful. After a few minutes of using my fingers to swipe forward and back through web pages my hand started to hurt. Apple does a lot of things well but mice are not one of them. The tracking problems will probably be fixed with a software update but there’s no firmware upgrade for carpal tunnel.
